Dr. Sleeper graduated *cum laude* from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and completed a rotating internship in medicine and surgery at the Mid‑Atlantic Equine Medical Center. After becoming board‑certified in cardiology, she spent many years in Penn’s cardiology section before joining the University of Florida as a Clinical Professor of Cardiology in 2015.
She is a prolific researcher and author, with more than **85 peer‑reviewed original papers**, over **50 review papers and case reports**, and **five textbooks**. Her work focuses on inherited heart diseases—especially inherited cardiomyopathies—comparative cardiology, and therapeutic gene transfer. She also serves on the editorial board of *Frontiers in Veterinary Science* and has held multiple leadership roles within the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology). Dr. Sleeper was nominated for **Westminster Kennel Club’s Veterinarian of the Year** in both 2022 and 2024.
